Taxation Services
Strategic Tax Planning, Compliance & Representation

Direct tax, GST, TDS, and international tax under one coordinated team — not four disconnected filing exercises. Planned ahead of time, applied consistently, and defended if a notice follows.

Taxation as an Ongoing Discipline, Not a Once-a-Year Scramble

Taxation touches almost every financial decision a person or business makes — how income is structured, when investments are made, how a business is incorporated, and how cross-border transactions are reported. Treated reactively, tax becomes a source of notices, penalties, and avoidable disputes. Treated as an ongoing discipline, it protects both compliance and profitability. At N D Savla & Associates, our Taxation practice is built around this second approach — covering direct tax, GST, TDS, and international tax under one coordinated team, rather than treating each as a disconnected filing exercise.

This page is an overview of the taxation practice as a whole. For income-tax-specific compliance, notices, and litigation support, see our dedicated Direct Tax Services page; for forward-looking tax structuring ahead of a listing or major transaction, see Tax Optimization.

Below we explain our approach to taxation, who we serve, how India's tax administration has evolved, our engagement process, sector-specific considerations, and answers to the questions we're asked most often.

Our Approach to Taxation

We believe taxation should be planned ahead of time, applied consistently, and explained clearly — not handled as a once-a-year scramble before a filing deadline. Practically, this means:

Reviewing income, investment, and business decisions for tax impact before they happen, not after.
Keeping compliance current throughout the year rather than reconstructing records at filing time.
Explaining the reasoning behind a tax position in plain language, so clients understand the why and not just the number.
Standing behind positions taken, including representation if a notice or scrutiny follows.

What Our Taxation Services Cover

Six coordinated service areas, handled by one team so that a position taken in one area does not create a problem in another.

01

Income Tax Advisory and Compliance

Return filing, advance tax computation, tax-saving strategy, and revised return support for individuals, professionals, and businesses — covered in depth on our Direct Tax Services page.
ITR Filing · Advance Tax · Revised Returns
02

Corporate and Business Taxation

Corporate tax planning, MAT/AMT computation, tax provisioning, and support during assessments for companies, LLPs, and partnership firms. For larger groups this runs across multiple business lines, often alongside related-party and transfer pricing considerations.
MAT / AMT · Provisioning · Assessments
03

GST Advisory and Compliance

Registration, monthly and quarterly return filing, input tax credit reconciliation, and departmental representation for GST matters. Where GST configuration inside the accounting system is the root cause of recurring mismatches, our Implementation Review of Accounting Systems service addresses it at source.
Registration · Returns · ITC Reconciliation
04

International Taxation and FEMA Advisory

DTAA advisory, transfer pricing support, and FEMA compliance for businesses and individuals with cross-border income or transactions. For NRI clients this typically begins with residential status determination, since the classification drives everything that follows.
DTAA · Transfer Pricing · FEMA
05

TDS and Withholding Tax Compliance

TDS applicability review, return filing and reconciliation, certificate issuance, and resolution of TDS defaults and notices — including the mismatches between Form 26AS, the Annual Information Statement, and the return that are now flagged automatically during processing.
Applicability · Returns · Default Resolution
06

Tax Litigation and Representation

Representation before tax authorities on notices, scrutiny assessments, and appeals, working toward resolution rather than prolonged disputes. Under faceless assessment this is largely a drafting and documentation discipline — the written record has to stand on its own, with no opportunity to clarify a point in person.
Notices · Scrutiny · Appeals · Faceless Support

Who Can Benefit from Our Taxation Services

The compliance calendar and the planning questions differ meaningfully by profile. These are the six we work with most:

Salaried Individuals and Professionals

Straightforward but accurate return filing, with attention to deductions, exemptions, and capital gains that are often missed in self-filing.

Business Owners and Entrepreneurs

Corporate tax planning coordinated with business decisions, so tax outcomes are considered before transactions close, not after.

Companies, LLPs and Established Corporates

Ongoing compliance across direct tax, GST, and TDS — often across multiple business lines, with related-party and transfer pricing considerations — freeing internal finance teams to focus on running the business.

Startups and Growing Businesses

Early-stage businesses need tax structuring that supports fundraising and growth without creating compliance debt that becomes expensive to unwind later.

High-Net-Worth Individuals

HNIs typically need capital gains planning, investment structuring, and sometimes international tax advisory alongside standard return filing.

NRIs and Cross-Border Clients

Residential status clarity, DTAA benefits, repatriation support, and property transaction tax planning that differs meaningfully from resident taxpayer requirements.

How Tax Administration in India Has Evolved

Before 1991, India's tax system operated within a highly regulated economy, with a complex, high-rate structure and extensive exemptions that made compliance both burdensome and, in many cases, difficult to enforce consistently across taxpayers.

The 1991 liberalisation reforms triggered a broader simplification of India's tax structure through the 1990s, with progressively rationalised income tax slabs and the beginning of a shift toward a more transparent, technology-assisted tax administration.

Two reforms fundamentally reshaped compliance in the following decades: the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017, which replaced a fragmented indirect tax structure of central and state levies with a single unified tax, and the progressive rollout of faceless assessment schemes starting in 2020, which removed direct taxpayer-officer interaction from scrutiny and appeals in favour of a technology-driven, jurisdiction-agnostic process.

Our Taxation Engagement Process

Six steps, with the same team carrying an engagement from first review through to representation if a notice arrives.

1

Initial review

Understanding your income sources, business structure, or transaction history to identify the specific tax services needed.

2

Compliance calendar setup

Mapping every recurring filing obligation — income tax, GST, TDS — relevant to your situation.

3

Advisory and planning

Identifying tax-saving opportunities and structuring options well ahead of filing deadlines.

4

Return preparation and filing

Preparing and filing returns with full supporting documentation.

5

Ongoing monitoring

Tracking notices, due dates, and regulatory changes that affect your tax position through the year.

6

Representation when needed

Handling notices, assessments, and appeals as they arise, with the same team that prepared the original filings — covered in detail under Direct Tax Services.

Common Tax Compliance Mistakes We See

A recurring pattern across clients who come to us after a problem has already surfaced is that the underlying mistake was avoidable with earlier attention. Some of the most common issues include:

Missing GST registration thresholds by assuming a business is too small to require registration, without checking the actual turnover rules for the specific category of supply.
Claiming deductions or exemptions without retaining the underlying proof, which becomes a problem only if the return is later selected for scrutiny.
Ignoring a mismatch between Form 26AS, the Annual Information Statement, and the income actually reported in the return, which is now flagged automatically during processing.
Treating advance tax as optional for salaried employees with significant other income, leading to interest under Sections 234B and 234C that could have been avoided with timely payment.
Assuming a tax notice will resolve itself if left unanswered, rather than responding within the specified window.

Most of these issues are straightforward to avoid with a basic ongoing compliance routine — which is exactly what our taxation engagements are designed to build.

Building a Practical Tax Compliance Calendar

One of the most useful things a taxation engagement provides is simply knowing what's due and when, rather than discovering a deadline has passed. A typical compliance calendar for a business client includes advance tax instalments across the financial year, monthly or quarterly GST return filings depending on the applicable scheme, periodic TDS return filings, and the annual income tax return itself — each with its own due date and penalty consequence for delay.

For individuals, the calendar is simpler but still worth tracking deliberately: advance tax instalments where applicable, the annual return filing deadline, and any specific deadlines tied to foreign asset or high-value transaction reporting. We set this calendar up as one of the first steps in any new taxation engagement, so nothing depends on remembering deadlines from memory.

Early tax planning — before an investment, transaction, or year-end — almost always creates more options than planning after the fact, when many structuring choices are no longer available.

Why Choose N D Savla & Associates for Taxation?

One coordinated team across direct tax, GST, TDS, and international tax, rather than separate specialists who don't talk to each other.
Proactive planning built into the relationship, not just reactive filing when a deadline approaches.
Direct representation experience before tax authorities, including faceless assessments and appellate proceedings.
Coordinated with our tax optimization practice for clients approaching a major transaction, fundraise, or listing.
Clear, plain-language communication — clients understand the reasoning behind every position we take on their behalf.

Our Broader Advisory and Compliance Services

Tax rarely sits on its own. Where an engagement runs into structuring, risk, or systems questions, the relevant practice picks it up:

Common Questions on Taxation

What taxation services does a Chartered Accountant provide?
Services typically include income tax return filing, tax planning, GST compliance, TDS return filing, and representation for tax notices and assessments — our Direct Tax Services page covers the income-tax-specific offerings in more detail.
How is Taxation different from Direct Tax Services on your website?
This page covers our full taxation practice — direct tax, GST, TDS, and international tax together — while the Direct Tax Services page focuses specifically on income tax filing, notices, assessments, and appeals.
When should I consult a tax expert rather than filing myself?
Consult a professional if your income or business structure has changed, you've received a tax notice, you're planning a major investment or transaction, or your affairs involve GST or cross-border income.
What is the difference between tax planning and tax evasion?
Tax planning is the legal use of available deductions and exemptions to minimise liability; tax evasion is illegal concealment of income and carries penalties and potential prosecution.
Do you help with GST alongside income tax?
Yes, GST registration, return filing, and departmental representation are part of our broader taxation practice, alongside income tax and TDS compliance.
What records should I keep for tax purposes through the year?
Bank statements, investment proofs, rent receipts, capital gains statements, business invoices, and any correspondence from tax authorities should be organised on an ongoing basis rather than reconstructed at filing time, since gaps here are one of the most common causes of delayed or inaccurate returns.
How often do tax rules change in India, and how do you stay current?
Direct tax rules typically change with each Union Budget, GST rates and procedures are revised more frequently through Council notifications, and our team tracks both on an ongoing basis so client advice reflects the rules actually in force at the time, not what applied in a prior year.
